About the Department

The Department of Public Administration served at the Bahçelievler campus of Marmara University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences until 1988. Starting in October of the same year, it earned the distinction of being the first higher education institution in our country to provide education in French. Following agreements made with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 and the French National Foundation of Political Sciences in 1989, it relocated in 1989 to the French Embassy's "Summer Mansion" located in Tarabya. Graduating its first class in July 1992, the Department of French Public Administration was affiliated with the Faculty of Political Sciences established in 2012 and began the new academic year at the Anadolu Hisarı campus.

Structured on the model of the French Institutes of Political Studies (Instituts d'Etudes Politiques, IEP), our Department has student and faculty exchange programs with prominent institutions in the field of political science in France. Our graduates are accepted into prestigious educational institutions in France, such as ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration), the IEPs, and the Sorbonne, to continue their master's education with scholarships provided by the French Government or the European Union.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration (30% English) was established under the name "Public Administration" in 2012 along with the restructuring of the Faculty of Political Sciences, and began its undergraduate education and training life in 2014. In 2016, our Department's name was changed to "Political Science and Public Administration." True to its discipline, our Department offers a rich and nurturing program regarding both the theoretical debates and practical reflections of the fields of political science and management. With the scope and quality of the education it offers in the field of public administration and political science, along with related disciplines, it is a very strong candidate to be one of the most important academic centers in Turkey.

The Department focuses on the fundamental dimensions of public administration, such as constitutional law, management science, administrative law, and local governments, while also addressing technical subjects of the management field such as economics, public finance, and tax systems. In addition to core political science courses such as introduction to political science, history of political thought, Turkey's social structure, political sociology, and political life in the Ottoman and Republican periods, it offers a rich and interdisciplinary program in the field of law with courses such as civil law and labor law.

As of the 2019 academic year fall semester, two undergraduate programs with different curricula and mediums of instruction are carried out within the Department of Political Science and Public Administration: the Political Science and Public Administration 30% English Program and the Political Science and Public Administration French Program.
