The Department of Public Administration served at the Bahçelievler campus of Marmara University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences until 1988. Starting in October of the same year, it earned the distinction of being the first higher education institution in Turkey to provide education in French. Following agreements concluded with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 and the French National Foundation of Political Sciences in 1989, the department relocated to the French Embassy's "Summer Residence" in Tarabya in 1989. Affiliated with the newly established Faculty of Political Sciences in 2012, the department commenced its new academic year at the Anadolu Hisarı campus.
The French Public Administration Department produced its first graduates in July 1992.
Modeled after the French Institutes of Political Studies (Instituts d'Etudes Politiques, IEP), the department maintains student and faculty exchange programs with prominent institutions in the field of political science in France. Graduates are accepted into prestigious French educational institutions such as ENA (École Nationale d'Administration), IEPs, and the Sorbonne to pursue master's degrees with scholarships provided by the French Government or the European Union.
